Alexander Leydenfrost is a truly remarkable character. He escaped crisis in Hungary with his friends Bela Lugosi, Peter Lorre and Paul Lucas. Although he was born a baron that title was stripped early on when the heir was murdered and because of the tumult in his home country he was pretty much bankrupt by the 19230s. Furthermore, he got into an actual sword fight over the honour of a woman…. that’s when the 4 “L’s” left for New York.

Leydenfrost’s most famous series of work was a number of aircraft paintings in the second world war. He definitely enjoyed mechanics but also was great at dabbling in more sci-fi art as well, as seen here.
